BAC/PAC COLLECTION FOR MOLECULAR CYTOGENETICS

We have been supported in the past years by Telethon to produce resources for molecular cytogenetics (see our Web site http://www.biologia.uniba.it/rmc/). Large panels of whole-chromosome painting probes, partial chromosome paints, and YAC clones have been created or characterized. The Human Genome Project, in the meanwhile, has produced contigs of BAC/PAC clones covering the entire human genome, as intermediate step toward genome sequencing. BAC/PACs are an excellent tool in a wide range of research and clinical applications, molecular cytogenetics in particular. Our goal is to continue the service of free distribution of BAC probes, and to validate by FISH additional BACs in order to reach a collection of 7000 clones, evenly distributed along the human genome.
