GALLIERA GENETIC BANK – DNA, CELL AND TISSUE BANK

The "Galliera Genetic Bank"(GGB) of the Human Genetic Laboratory - Galliera Hospital in Genoa, has started in 1983. Since then, several cases of human genetic diseases, identified in pre and postnatal diagnosis, have been collected. Large increase in samples stored are registered every year from the always growing level of activity, income from other centres and different research projects. To date in the bank are stored: amniotic fluid, trophoblast and fibroblast cell cultures, lymphocytes, lymphoblastoid cell lines, skin biopsies, chorionic villi and organ tissues of subjects affected by different genetic disease. DNA of 6650 subjects are stored at +4°C. Sample data are collected in a database with information referring to code number, personal data, diagnosis and type of material. The informed consent is obtained from patient or their parents and personal details remain confidential. All the information regarding GGB collection and services (distribution, storage, production of EBV cell lines, etc.) can be found at web address: http://ggb.galliera.it. All cases stored are available free of charge on request.
